Audio / Video

J&M Connections installs audio/video systems for small businesses, schools, universities, hospitals, warehouses, and government facilities across central Ohio. As with networking and security, the cabling behind every speaker, display, or paging horn is pulled and terminated by the same BICSI-certified technicians who handle the rest of the building's low-voltage work.

What Audio/Video Is

Audio/video covers the systems a building uses to be heard and seen: paging and sound reinforcement that carries announcements and audio through a space, sound masking that manages background noise, and the displays, projectors and boards a classroom or conference room runs on. Every one of those devices needs power and, usually, a cable run — which is why J&M treats A/V as part of the same low-voltage trade as its cabling and networking work, not a separate specialty handed to a second contractor.

What's Included

Offerings

J&M installs:

  • Sound masking
  • Satellite radio installation
  • Central sound reinforcement
  • Paging systems
  • Monitors / TVs
  • Projectors, screens & SMARTboards

Cabled by the Same Certified Crew

Because every speaker, display or paging horn needs a cable run back to a rack or controller, J&M's BICSI-certified technicians handle that wiring the same way they handle structured cabling and network cabling elsewhere in the building. Many A/V devices — displays, some paging equipment — can also run on PoE over the same category cable used for data, so planning the A/V layout alongside the network cabling avoids rework later.

Typical Scope & Timeline

How a Project Runs

A/V work is priced the same way as J&M's other services: a written bid built around a site visit, rather than a flat rate, so the quote reflects the actual space, the equipment chosen, and the cable runs required to reach it.

The on-site walkthrough is free. We walk the space with you, then send a written bid.

Timeline

Every project is different, so the timeline depends on the size and scope of the job. Your written bid includes a schedule for your project.

Standards We Work To

Every J&M technician holds BICSI certification, and the cabling behind A/V equipment follows the same EIA/TIA standards as the rest of the building's structured cabling. Workmanship carries a 1-year parts-and-labor warranty, excluding damage from misuse. For devices that draw power over the network cable — many displays and some paging equipment included — the same cable-category guidance J&M applies to networking applies here too: Cat 6a handles higher-power PoE devices more comfortably than Cat 5e or Cat 6, which is worth planning for as A/V equipment draws more power over its service life.

Project Examples

K-12 Schools — Classroom Displays & Projectors

As part of the structured cabling and network infrastructure work J&M completed for Independence School, Briggs School and additional central Ohio districts, classrooms were equipped with interactive whiteboard displays mounted between dry-erase boards, with ceiling-mounted projectors above — installed alongside the same cabling and rack work documented in that project.

Recent audio/video and security projects

Recent audio/video and security work by J&M Connections includes projects for Wendy's, DSW, The Ohio State University and K-12 schools across central Ohio.

Frequently Asked Questions

What audio/video services do you offer?

Sound masking, satellite radio installation, central sound reinforcement, paging systems, monitors/TVs, and projectors, screens & SMARTboards.

What kinds of buildings do you install A/V in?

Small businesses, schools, universities, hospitals, warehouses, and government facilities.

Do your technicians install A/V the same way they install cabling?

Yes — J&M's BICSI-certified technicians handle the cabling and wiring behind the paging, sound and display equipment the company installs, using the same standards as the rest of a building's low-voltage work.

How is A/V work priced?

Like J&M's other services, A/V work is priced by written bid after a site visit, so the quote reflects your space and the equipment you choose.

Do you install projectors and SMARTboards in classrooms?

Yes. Projectors, screens and SMARTboards are part of J&M's standard A/V offerings, and have been installed as part of school cabling and network projects, including the classroom work described above.

Can A/V equipment share cabling with our network?

In many cases, yes — some displays, paging equipment and other A/V devices run on Power over Ethernet, carrying both power and data on the same cable used for networking. Whether that's the right fit for a given device is something J&M works out during the walkthrough, alongside the rest of the cabling plan.
